Stonehenge was built by several cultures over a long period, beginning approximately five thousand years ago. Among artefacts found are wooden posts, pottery, bone tools, arrowheads and in nearby graves, the skeleton of an archer (the "Amesbury Archer") with precious goods like gold hair ornaments. The reasons for the construction of Stonehenge are actively debated. http://www.stonehenge.co.uk/
