    Hello Sierra, Pyramids aren't my speciliaty, but from my understanding historic evidence indicates that pyramids were built by ancient egyptian civilizations as tombs for their magnificient kings. I have heard theories that claim that the Pyramid of Giza could have been used as an observatory of some kind, but as I said this is not speciality so I am not sure how strong those theories are.

    Dawn is correct, the pyramids were not used to study the Sun. The ancient Egyptians though, did believe that the Sun god, Ra, held great power. Obviously, he must have, since heat and light comes from him!
