    Does it hurt if look at a total solar eclipse during its total phase?

    Hi Tammy,

    Yes, it is safe to look at the Sun during an eclipse during totality (when the photosphere of the Sun is completely blocked by the Moon). However, this only happens for a short time and only for total eclipses (most people will be in locations where the eclipse is partial and not total). So, I would not recommend trying it.
