    Jen (LM) I like collecting coins. Do any coins from any countries have the sun on them as part of their artwork? thanks.

    Hi Jen,

    I think it is neat to save interesting coins when I travel to foreign countries. Unfortunately, I don't know if any coins have the sun on them as part of their artwork. Maybe one of the other Solar Week scientists can tell you!

    However, I do know that famous scientists have been pictured on paper money from other countries. Before France switched to using the Euro as their currency, famous scientists Marie and Pierre Curie were pictured on the 500 Franc note. You can read more about scientists pictured on money in an article from the December 1998 issue of Physics Today magazine. If the link below does not work, maybe you can find it at your library.

    Famous space scientist, Kristian Olaf Birkeland, is featured on Norway's 200 kroner bank note. He was a pioneer in the study of the aurora borealis and Sun-Earth connections.
