    Hi Jeff,

    Actually the Sun doesn't really burn - at least not in the sense of a fire burning. At the core of the Sun a reaction called nuclear fusion is taking place which causes hydrogen atoms to smash together, stick and form helium. This process releases a bunch of energy which then heats the surrounding gas and makes the Sun glow and radiate heat.
