Is it true that one day the sun will get really close to us and swalow us.

    Dear Ryan,

The death of our Sun will include a stage where it will swell up so large (becoming what we call a "Red Giant") that it will essentially almost swallow the Earth, before it shrinks back in on itself to become a "White Dwarf". This process marks the death of our Sun, but it won't happen for billions and billions of years- much too far in the future for us to worry about!

    Holly
