    Why did we name the Milky way galaxy the milky way galaxy? Adam w.

    Hi, the Milky Way Galaxy is called that because when you look at it in the night sky (at a very dark place outside of city lights) you can see it as a fuzzy, almost milky, river like structure going through the sky. The fuzziness is caused by gas and many many stars.
