Do meteorologists use amateur radio to contact local E.O.Cs for harsh weather warnings?

If you don't know what Ameteur Radio is I suggest www.eham.net to learn more

Meteorologists sometimes use networks of amateur radio operators to report severe weather like hail or tornadoes. These are called "skywarn" networks. I'm a ham radio operator, and I'm teaching a class on ham radio this semester! I even have a fun TicTacToe game to let folks practice on the ham radio exam questions! My call sign is "W5TAR" and I am "extra"-class. Ham radio operators are especially useful in emergencies. I volunteered during Katrina, for example, and many hams helped in communications during Katrina, Rita, 9/11 and other emergencies.
