    Why did we get rid of Pluto

    We did not get rid of Pluto. It is still there safe and sound. NASA is even sending a mission (New Horizons) to go study it. It was simply decided by the the group that names planets and classifies objects in the solar system (the International Astronomical Union) that it should not be called a planet any more. Instead is is called a "dwarf planet".

    It turns out there are a large number of other dwarf planets in the outer solar system. Pluto is just the first one we found. It should be very interesting to see what it is like.
