Is there an exact cause yet determined what causes sunspots?

    Hi Nick,

I'm probably not the best person to answer this question, but I think other than the understanding that sunspots occur in regions of concentrated magnetic field, I'm not sure people have a really good handle on what creates them (or rather what creates the strong area of magnetic fields).

    Best,
    Christina
