Actually, there are about the same number of lunar eclipses as solar eclipses a year (about 2-4 per year -- although they are not all total)-- however, the big difference is, solar eclipses are visible only from the small part of the Earth that lies under the moon's shadow, whereas, the lunar eclipse is visible everywhere on the half of the Earth that is looking at the moon during the eclipse.
