Is it true that the Sun is awash in electric rivers?

I suppose you could say so. We measure and see the impact of magnetic fields on the Sun. A magnetic field can be produced by a moving electric charge, and a moving electric charge moving through a region is called a current. The Sun is composed of gases in a plasma state, so almost all the material that we see is electrically charged.
