What are you doing for the total solar eclipse on Aug. 21?

Are you doing science stuff or just watching for fun?

I will be watching the eclipse for sheer fun. I am so lucky that my father's farm in Missouri is in the path of totality. I just have to hope for good weather.

I was mostly planning on going for just fun, but I got roped into giving a short presentation after the eclipse at a local library (which I'm happy to do).
I'll be traveling to Wyoming to be in the path of totality and like Delores, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for good weather.

If you can get anywhere near the totality path, I highly recommend it!

    Hi Buddy,

I live about 70 miles from the path of totality (and fairly near to the location of the longest duration of totality), so I will be anxiously watching the weather the week leading up to the eclipse and picking the right spot to drive to with the family. I am not going to miss this for the world! I already have my viewing glasses ready (which you can purchase fairly cheaply from Amazon). Our solar group at Marshall Space Flight Center will be hosting several groups along the path and will be participating in a project to get a movie with the same instrumentation across the US. Be on the lookout for that from NASA and partnering academic institutions (like the High Altitude Observatory) on the news and social media...

A little of both actually. There is a big meeting of Solar Researchers in Portland that week, and many of us will travel together to a University in the path of totality. This will be my first eclipse, so during it I will definitely be focused on just enjoying it for myself! But before the eclipse starts I will probably be talking with the public and sharing some knowledge about the sun.
