    How are solar eclipses made.

    An eclipse happens when the moon's shadow falls on the earth. The darkest part of the moon's shadow is very small, only tens of kilometers wide, and only in that darkest part (umbra) do the people there see a total eclipse. If they see a partial eclipse, only part of the sun is covered by the Moon. You can watch our show "Earth's Wild Ride" to see an explanation of eclipses.
