Is a sunspot like a hole in the sun. its looks so dark int he middle, can't anything?

A sunspot is a concentration of magnetic flux. It appears dark because it is significantly cooler then the surrounding area of the Sun

Hi shelly r, You could think it as a very shallow hole, just a slight dip. But the darkness of a sunspot is due to the fact that the area is cooler than its surrounding solar surface. Yan
