    when did sciences first understand, or learn that magnetic effects come from the sun?

    Hi Denise,
    People were discussing it by the nineteenth century. Edward Sabine in the mid 1800's noted that geomagnetic disturbances went up and down with period similar to that of the solar cycle the solar cycle (see http://www.phy6.org/Education/whsun.html).
