    My students are very interested in what was "around" the matter of the Universe right before the Big Bang occured? Thank you

    Well, none of us can answer this question because scientists don't know!

    Astronomers are just beginning to get a few clues about what was going on right AFTER the Big Bang...but it is going to take major breakthroughs in our understanding of the law of physics before this question can be answered!

    It wasn't so long ago that we thought we understood the matter that makes up the universe. But now astronomers have found that most of the universe is made up of stuff called "dark matter" and "dark energy" but these are still pretty mysterious as well.
