How many of you have school-aged children, like through high school. Do they "mirror" your interests?

I have a daughter in 3rd grade. In some ways she mirrors my interest. She is definitely intrigued by space and loves math but she is also into art and music.

I have two girls - one is a junior in college (gasp - not sure how that happened!) and the other is a senior in high school. While they were both pretty good at math and science in high school, my older daughter always gravitated towards more liberal arts stuff, particularly if it involved arguing. She's currently an International Affairs, with a concentration in the Middle East, major + Economics minor at George Washington University. I have no idea what most of her papers are about, but she loves it.

My younger daughter is interested in going into Physics and even leaning towards Space Physics. Even she readily admits that I never pushed her in this direction, so it is interesting that she's heading in that direction. But we'll see what happens when she gets a taste of all the other fields and opportunities in college.

I think it is really hard to decide what you want to 'be' in high school, since most people have very limited exposure to the wide range of careers and areas of study that are possible. Hopefully that's what college is for - to find out what you are really passionate and excited about!

    Good luck,
    Christina

I did have three young children at once (an older daughter and boy/girl twins 21 months later). So having good child care is critical (and a supportive husband). I had an older retired lady to "nanny" and she saved my life!! Now they are all on their own and did manage to survive having a mom who was gone a lot...
