    How did the term solar storm cam eto be, or why spaceweather, is called spaceweather?

    Hi Mitch.
    Both terms are ones that we use to try to explain our science to the public. We are comparing the disturbances in space with disturbances in Earth's atmosphere - storms and weather.

    The term 'solar storm' might also be related to the scientific term of a disturbance in Earth's magnetic field. These disturbances, which you can measure from the Earth's surface, are called 'geomagnetic storms'. Solar storms and space weather are causes of geomagnetic storms, so the names might be historically related.
