Hi my name is Sahar and I go to the Academy of Aerospace and Engineering.I wanted to ask when a solar alignment occurs and about when the next one will happen. Also I would like to know what your favorite sport is. What about your favorite animal? Ice cream flavor?

    Thanks so much, Sahar

    Hi Sahar,
So by alignment are you thinking of an alignment of the Earth, Moon and Sun, which can lead to an eclipse? The next time that will happen in May 20 when people will be able to see what is called an annular eclipse of the Sun in certain parts of the western US, the Pacific, and Asia (see:
    http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa....ASE2012/ASE2012.html )

Another interesting alignment coming up in June is with the Sun, Earth, and Venus. People on Earth will be able to seen Venus moving across the disk of the Sun.

More info on that here: http://www.transitofvenus.org/

This is a very rare event - less than twice a century!

My favorite sport is bicycling; favorite animal, I guess, would be dogs, but frogs are pretty cool to. Ice cream... either vanilla peanut butter or mint chocolate chip.

    Terry
