    Hi Melissa,

    Astronauts that are exposed to the amount of radiation that occurs during a solar storm can suffer consequences.... there's a good chance they would experience radiation sickness following the exposure, although they might not immediately feel the effects. To minimize these bad effects caused by to much exposure to radiation, we are trying to predict when solar storms occur and give astronauts enough warning.... something we call "space weather", which is not unlike the weather warnings of tornadoes, etc. here on Earth.
