    Why are there sunspot cycles, where at times there's more, and other times less? thank you

    The sunspot cycle you are referring to is actually what we call a solar cycle and it is due to the changes in the solar magnetic field. The solar magnetic field changes on an 11 year cycle. The peak of this cycle is known as solar maximum.
