    How big are sunspots usually?

    Hi Heather,

Sunspots vary somewhat in size, but they are generally about the size of the Earth! So although they look small on the solar disk, they are actually quite large.

James W. Fairfield CT. What do you mean by a solar disc?

Hi Jim, Scientists refer to the SUN's (disk) simply the side we see facing Earth! The Sun rotates in about 28 days, so the Sun's face facing Earth, is obviously not the same all the time! As the Sun rotates, and sunspots, and other solar features show, like flares, and solar prominences, its constantly changing! Thanks for visiting Solar Week!
