Hi Terri S,

Sunspots are anchored compared with the rotation of the Sun.
But sunspots have motions. Sunspots are regions on the Sun with very strong
magnetic fields. They emerge from below the Sun’s surface, the photosphere.
Once a sunspot completes its emerging phase, its strong magnetic field begins
to decay and eventually it disappears when its magnetic field is weak enough.
It has also been found that some sunspots rotate.
