    Hi!

I am a high school girl from Sri Lanka. When people ask me what I want to be when I grow up, and I say I want to become an astrophysicist at NASA, they kind of laugh and go 'come on, what is it really?'. Now I just lie to them but I would really appreciate if you guys too think it is impossible and why..

    Hi,

I don't think it is impossible at all. It will certainly take a lot of work, but that is true whether you are a girl from Sri Lanka or a boy from California. Basically you want to go to college and major in physics or engineering or astronomy or math and then go to graduate school and get a PhD. You don't have to do these things in the US (although getting your PhD in the US might make things a little easier).

'Working for NASA' means a bunch of different things, but lots of people are working at NASA centers (even if they aren't directly employed as a US civil servant), doing great science that have come from many different places in the world.
