How come the moon's gravity affects tides on Earth but not the sun's gravity?

    Hi,
The Sun does actually have tidal affects on the Earth, but they are
smaller than the ones from the Moon. Although the Sun's
gravitational pull on the Earth is stronger than the Moon's, for tides
distance matters and the Moon is much closer. Still, though, the Sun can change
the tides are in measurable ways, making them stronger or weaker than they would be otherwise.
