Hi, the closest galaxies are satelite galaxies or our own galaxy, the Milky Way. The closes is the Canus Major Dwarf Galaxy, about 25,000 light years from the Sun (so it take light 25,000 years to get from it to us - so that is still pretty far!). It is hard to see, though, because it is in a direction where you have to look through a lot of the Milky Way to see it. Easier to see are the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds, which are quite obvious in a reasonably dark night sky - if you are in the Southern Hemisphere!
