I love to play music (I play the Bagpipes with the Irish Pipers of San Francisco). This is something completely different to work and the group I play with is very sociable. I also play softball with a group of friends in my local city once a week. I also really enjoy shopping and going for coffee on a sunny day, or reading in the park (when I have time!). Most of all, I love to travel. I've been to many countries but I've mostly travelled around the US - I've visited 29 States so far! I'm originally from Ireland but now live in California so one of my new hobbies is learning to ski!! We don't get snow in Ireland so this is a really exciting thing for me!

Hi - as a scientist who's a mom, my fun time is generally schlepping the kids to soccer, lessons, etc., and then helping with homework, making dinner, etc. However, I bike-commute, and the weather's been beautiful (except for today's wind), and riding to and from work with the sun and the beautiful colors in the foliage has just been spectacular. I like to ride in the snow in the winter, because it's a challenge and fun, too... Sometimes I'll take a 1/2-day and ski, or take an extra-long route to work just to play a bit; I like to play piano (my daughter sings, so accompanying her as she practices is pretty fun, too).

    Hi,

I do a lot of different things for fun! I am learning how to grow orchids and I am the newsletter editor for the Eastern Iowa Orchid Society. We have set up displays of our plants at orchid shows in Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin for many years. We just hosted our very first orchid show in the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids area two weeks ago with the help of the Floral Careers Program at Kirkwood Community College. The orchid club has also taken field trips to a very old local cemetery where lots of native Iowa orchids grow to help pull out garlic mustard, which is an invasive weed that threatens the habitat of the native prairie wildflowers. I am interested in movie special effects and film production, so I have volunteered on the screening committee for the Landlocked Film Festival, which brings filmmakers from around the U.S. and even from other countries to Iowa City, IA. I also like to read, so I regularly go to science fiction & fantasy book groups that meet nearby. One of the book groups is sponsored by an organization that holds an annual science fiction convention in Cedar Rapids, so I have had the chance to meet the authors of some of the books we have read. The nearby town of Riverside, IA is the "Future Birthplace of Captain Kirk" from "Star Trek," so every year they host an event called Trekfest which is fun to attend. I also love to travel. Sometimes I get to travel for work, but I also have been able to take trips to Europe and interesting places in the U.S. for fun too.

On the weekends, I go to our ranch where we raise Cattle and horses - I love being able to see the stars in a dark sky! And to listen to the coyotes and owls. My most fun hobby is going to solar eclipses. I'm leaving November 3 to go to Australia to the eclipse - it will be my 13th time on the center line! (10 totals and 2 annulars, with only one rained out so far). I'll be posting images and movies on Trigger's facebook page... https://www.facebook.com/Trigger.MMS

Hi, I do a lot of things for fun as well. I have some gold fish. I have lots of snails that I feed, because there are lots of them in my garden, but I don't want to kill them, so I collect them and feed them. I plant roses, only those that are fragrant, yellow ones are my favorite. I love hummingbirds, so I plant lavender to attract them. They come everyday to my garden now, sweet! I go swimming, ride my bike. I stopped dancing salsa, but I should pick it up. I am chinese, I also watch chinese movies and TV series. China has a long history and plenty of awesome stories to work on. The film industry in china, HongKong and Taiwan work together a lot these days and made lot of high quality films, so fascinating! I am a big fun of a chinese actor and I go online talk to other fans of his and himself too (if I am lucky). We use weibo on sina, which is something like facebook but with much better graphic capability. Sounds like fun?! Yan
