Greetings, My name is Ryan. I live in Connecticut and I plan to work some day as an astronomer and go to collage at Berkley. I want to know is how and why the sun's poles flip every so often and what kind of affect can it have on planets that obit it?

    Hi Ryan

The Sun's magnetic poles flip about every 11 years. Scientist are still trying to understand how and why. There is a magnetic dynamo operating inside the Sun that is the underlying cause, and scientist are trying to develop computer models that can explain the Sun's cycle.

The planets have survived many, many flips of the Sun's poles.
