Hi Mark,

The fact that Mercury is orbiting the Sun means that it is being pulled in by its gravity but it has enough momentum that it just stays in orbit where it is. It is sort of like it is always falling and missing or overshoting . So we don't expect Mercury to fall into the Sun.
