    Hi Sheri,

I don't collect meteorites, but I used to collect interesting rocks that I would find when I was a kid. We had a rock tumbler so I could polish the rocks that I found. When I was in college, my geology class took a field trip to the Black Hills in South Dakota. We went to a rock quarry where we could look for interesting rocks to bring home. I found pieces of mica, rose quartz, and a piece of white quartz with black tourmaline crystals sticking out of it. It looked a little bit like this: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d1/TourmalineUSGOV.jpg

About a year ago, people not too far from where I live in Iowa saw a meteor streak across the sky. I remember hearing on the news that meteorite hunters came to look for pieces of it and some scientists in Wisconsin may have found one. You can read more here.
