    Hi Rebacca!

    I think a solar storm generally refers to big explosions that occur at the Sun, like solar flares and coronal mass ejections. Sunspots are found frequently on the regions where these powerful eruptions take place. So called active regions on the Sun are areas where magnetic field is particularly strong and where sunspots, solar flares and coronal mass ejections occur.
