In what time period do you think we will find a material that can withstand the temperatures on the sun to explore on the sun? (Jalen Perez from SRE)

Hi Jalen! It is indeed very difficult to send the spacecraft close to the Sun due to extreme heat. NASA is planning a future mission Solar Probe Plus that will fly less than ten solar radii from the surface of the Sun, much closer than any other spacecraft have been so far. The spacecraft has to be designed with special solar shields to withstand the several thousands Fahrenheit at its closest approach. You can read more from http://solarprobe.jhuapl.edu/index.phpIt is very important to have a spacecraft observing the Sun as close as possible, for example for studying the heating of the solar corona and solar wind acceleration.
