Hi everyone; A couple of interesting sunspot groups are on the visible solar disk right now, and a medium-sized flare occurred yesterday (22 October 2013, 12:20 UT). The flare produced a big radio burst which is featured on today (23 October 2013)'s post on spaceweather.com, and from that website you can hear an audio of the radio burst! As the post states, "Amateur radio astronomer Thomas Ashcraft of New Mexico was listening at the
time of the eruption. "I knew this flare was
a strong one by the force of the radio shock front,"
he says. "It nearly lifted me out of my chair!"

Take a look at some solar images and see what all the activity's about, at spaceweather.com, or http://umbra.nascom.nasa.gov/images/latest.html or use the projection method to look at the sunspots. (I like clicking on the small solar image on spaceweather.com, left hand side, and expanding it to see all the detail!).

    Have fun, -KD
