Description:
AGU’s 2014 Public Lecture will focus on the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution (MAVEN) spacecraft. The MAVEN mission was launched in November 2013 and arrived at Mars in October 2014. It is orbiting the planet and studying the top of its atmosphere and how it interacts with sunlight and the solar wind. The goal is to understand where the water and CO2 from an earlier atmosphere went. During the Public Lecture, a panel of experts will discuss the mission science concept, science observations made during the cruise to get there, observations of Comet Siding Spring, and early observations of the Mars upper atmosphere. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, go to http://education.agu.org/education-activities-at-agu-meetings/public-lecture/.
